Article in English Grammar With Examples

A, An तथा The को Article कहा जाता है, समांन्यतः इनका प्रयोग Noun के पहले होता है ये Noun के महत्व को दर्शाते हैं, ये Adjectives है, A/An को Indefinite Article तथा The को Definite Article कहा जाता है, Modern English ग्रैमर में Articles को Determiners के अंतर्गत रखा जाता है ।

Kinds Of Article

Article दो प्रकार के होते है-

A/An को Indefinite Article कहते हैं

और The को Definite Article कहा जाता है

1. Indefinite Articles: A or An का प्रयोग किसी Noun के Position को Indefinite और uncertain (अनिश्चित) बनाने के लिए किया जाता है जैसे-

1. He Saw an old man-उसने एक बूढ़ा व्यक्ति देखा
2. There was a king-एक राजा था
3. A dog was barking at night-एक कुत्ता रात में भोंक रहा था

2. Definite Article: the का प्रयोग किसी Noun के Position को Definite और Certain (निश्चित) बनाने के लिए किया जाता है जैसे-

1. The house in which i live is new-घर जिसमे मैं रहता हूँ नया है
2. This is the pen which i bought-यह वही कलाम है जो मैंने खरीदी है
3. The Gold of nepal is cheap-नेपाल का सोना सस्ता है

Use of A and An

Indefinite Article 'a' का प्रयोग साधारणतया उन Nouns के पहले जिनकी गिनती की जा सकती है, किया जाता है और जिनका उच्चारण Consonant (व्यंजन) की आवाज से होता है । 
Examples : A cow, a woman, a chair, a boy, a horse etc.
ये शब्द क्रमशः क , व , च , ब , ह ध्वनि से start होते हैं । इसलिए a Article इनसे पहले लगा है 

उदाहरण :- A Pen, A Book, A Dog etc । 

'An' का प्रयोग उस Singular Noun  शब्द से पहले किया जाता है जिस शब्द की प्रथम ध्वनि स्वर हो । या 

प्रथम अक्षर Vowel (स्वर) हो ।

 English में स्वर अक्षर है - A, E, I, O, U ।  

उदाहरण :-  An Umbrella, An Elephant, An Hour, An Honest man etc.

Use of A/An -:

Rule 1 -  Singular Noun से पहले A/An का प्रयोग किया जाता है ।

Ex -: A Book √

         A Books ×

Rule 2 - Singular Countable Noun (जिसे गिना जा सके) से पहले A/An का प्रयोग किया जाता है ।

Ex -: A Pen √

        A Milk ×

Rule 3 -  professions (पेशा) से पहले 'A/An' का प्रयोग किया जाता है ।

 Ex -: An Engineer

         An MP

Rule 4 - A/An का प्रयोग what & such  जैसे शब्दों के बाद exclamatory sentences मे किया जाता है ।

Ex -: What a scene.

         Such a big hall.

Rule 5 - किसी विशिष्ट व्यक्ति की उपमा से किसी अन्य की पहचान दी जाये, तो A/An का प्रयोग होता है 

Ex -: He is a Salman khan of our colony. 

         She is a Neha kakkar.

Rule 6 - किसी जाति / विशेष को व्यक्त करने के लिये, A/An का प्रयोग Singular naun से पहले किया जाता है ।

Ex -: She is an Indian.

         A dog is an animal.

Rule 7 - यदि Singular noun से पहले कोई एड्जिक्टिव आता है, तो A/An को एड्जिक्टिव से पहले लगाते है ।

Ex -: She is a beautiful girl.

         He is an honest boy.

2. रिक्त स्थानों की पूर्ति ‘a’ या ‘an’ से करें।

1. This is ……… egg.

4. He is ………… unlucky person.
5. He is ………… honest man.
6. Sanju is ……….. very good man.
7. Karim is ………… intelligent student.
8. That is ………… pen.
9. Kolkata is ……….. industrial city.
10. He is ………… army officer.

Use of 'The'

The का प्रयोग उस समय करते है जब हम किसी Particular व्यक्ति या वस्तु या जिसका पहले उल्लेख हो चुका हो, या जिससे वक्ता (Orator) परिचित  हो, के बारे में बात करते है ।
Example : The girl you are seeing is my daughter.

(b) पर्वत श्रेणीयों (Mountain Ranges) नदी (River), नहर (Canal) , सागर (Sea), महासागर (Ocean) , खाड़ी (Bay), रेगिस्तान (Desert), द्वीप समूह (Group of Islands), प्रसिद्ध इमारतों (Famous Buildings) के नाम से पहले the का प्रयोग करते है । क्रमशः (Respectively) उदाहरण देखिए :
Examples : The Himalayas, The Brahmaputra River, The Buckingham Canal, The Red Sea, The Indian Ocean, The Bay of Bengal, The Sahara Desert, The Andaman and Nicobar, The Taj Mahal.
Note : पर्वत शिखरों (Individual peaks) के पहले the का प्रयोग नहीं करते है ।  Examples : Mount Everest, Kangchenjunga 

Rule 1 -  Natural or Unique things.

Ex -:  The Sun

          The Earth

Rule 2 - नदियों, समुंद्रों, महासागरों, पहाड़ों, झीलों, नहरों, जहाजों, मरुस्थलों, आदि के नाम से पहले ।

Ex-:  The Himalayas, The Bhakhra dam, The Sahara desert, The Arabian sea, the Indian ocean, The Ganga

Rule 3 - एतिहासिक भवनों, धार्मिक स्थानों, ग्रंथ, अखबार आदि के नाम से पहले ।

Ex -: The Taj Mahal, The Golden Temple, The Gita, The Indian Express.

Rule 4 -  पार्टी,एतिहासिक घटनांओ आदि से पहले ।

Ex -: The Congress, The battle of Panipat.

Rule 5 - सुपरलेटिव डिग्री और Evening/morning/afternoon से पहले (लेकिन इनसे पहले last, every या next शब्द ना हो)।

Ex -: The greatest, The most, In the evening, In the morning।

Rule 6 - जब कोई खास चीज हो और तिथि/तारीख से पहले ।

Ex -: That is the house.

         Today is the 5th of December.

Rule 7 - Proper naun को Plural बनाने के लिये।

और उन Singular noun से पहले जो पूरी जाति का बोध कराते हैं ।

Ex -: The Sharmas.

         The dog is a faithful animal.

POSITION OF ARTICLES

1 . Article ' noun ' से पहले लगता है ।
2 . जब एक से अधिक nouns का प्रयोग हो , तो प्रत्येक के पहले article लगता है ।
3 . जब एक से अधिक noun / adjective अलग - अलग व्यक्ति / वस्तुओं का बोध कराएं , तो प्रत्येक के आगे article लगता है ।
4 . जब एक से अधिक noun / adjective एक ही व्यक्ति / वस्तु का बोध कराएं तब सिर्फ पहले Noun के आगे article लगता है ।
5 . यदि noun के साथ adjective हो , तो article को adjective से पहले लिखा जाता है ।
6 . Many , such और what से पहले article नहीं लगता , इनके बाद लगता है ।
7 . यदि noun / pronoun के पहले adverb / adjective हो , तो al an का प्रयोग सबसे नजदीकी आने वाले शब्द के अनुसार होता है ।
8 . यदि noun के साथ adjective हो और साथ में adverb भी हो , तो article , adverb से पहले लिखा जाता है ।
9 . यदि किसी adjective से पहले as / how हो , तो ' article adjective के बाद लगता है ।
10 . यदि किसी adjective से पहले so / too का प्रयोग हो , तो article को adjective से पहले भी रख सकते हैं व बाद में भी ।
