Was, Were का प्रयोग Sentence बनाने में Helping Verb के रूप में किया जाता है, और Was, Were का प्रयोग भूतकाल वाक्यों (Past Tense) में किया जाता है, और साथ ही Was, Were का अर्थ "था" व "थी" के तौर पर किया जाता है।

Rule 1 - Affirmative Sentences में I, She, It, तथा Singular Noun के साथ Was तथा You, We, They व Plural Noun के साथ Were का उपयोग किया जाता है
Rule 2 - Negative Sentences में Was या Were के बाद और मुख्य Verb से पहले Not का प्रयोग किया जाता है
Rule 3 - Interrogative Sentences में auxiliary Verb Was या Were वाक्य के शुरू में प्रयोग किया जाता है। यदि प्रश्नवाचक शब्द Sentence के बीच में प्रयोग किया जाता है तो Interrogative Helping Verb को Was, Were, से पहले प्रयोग किया जाता है
